Houston Permit Moratorium Now in Effect

Today, April 21, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States issued their ruling in the City of Austin v Reagan National Advertising. Per our recent Blog, this now triggers a Review Period by the Houston Sign Administr ation.

In this Supreme Court Decision (see below), the Court ruled in favor of the City of Austin in their enforcement of off-premise versus on-premise signage. This decision was originally expected in June or July 2022. Please also see below the International Sign Association's response to this ruling.

During the City of Houston's Review period, the City will not approve, reject, issue or accept new sign permit applications. The on-premise sign industry is working with the City to determine exaclty the length of the Moratorium and whether any changes, if any will be made to the sign code.
